FAQ

Q. Is Dress 2 Soar a non-profit organization

A. Dress 2 SOAR is not an independent non-profit organization. We are partnered with The Alliance: Defending the Cause of Kids & Families and are considered a program of their organization. We are able to operate as a non-profit because we are a part of a non-profit organization and they are considered our Fiscal Sponsor. They provide the financial oversight required for legal purposes as well as business council and support. We operate under this 501(c)(3) Tax ID#: 90-0355853. All donated monies are sent to The Alliance, notated for Dress 2 SOAR.

Q. Was Dress 2 SOAR under a different name?

A. Yes. From 2014 through the end of 2018, Dress 2 SOAR operated under Dress 2 Success. As we continued to grow and to ensure we operated appropriately, we changed our name to Dress 2 S.O.A.R. and filed our business name with Placer County. There is an incredible business out there called Dress 4 Success and we did not want any confusion, so we made a significant change to our business name to ensure clarity.

Q. What does S.O.A.R. mean in your name?

A. S.O.A.R. means , Success, Over, Adverse, Realities. We believe that every foster youth has the choice in life to succeed but their adverse realities create more challenges than any other youth in America. Our organization focuses on providing specific opportunities to help each foster youth we engage, the chance to succeed over their personal adverse realities.

Q. do I need to be a professional stylist to help the teens?

A. No. We only ask that if you sign up to help style a teen, that you personally have a passion and skill with dressing professionally and helping others do the same. You do not have to be a professional but we have a lot of them in our volunteer pool. If you are like several of us on the team with a little fashion sense but not the deep arsenal of talent desired, there are many opportunities to help in the program. Don’t count yourself out just because you might suffer from fashion sense. Hang out at one or two of the program sessions and you will learn a lot!

Q. can my youth or teen volunteer with me?

A. This is a tricky question. Depending on what the volunteer opportunity is, the answer will vary. Helping with sorting our gently used clothing, the answer is yes. Coming to the foster school, the answer is no. We believe that volunteering is taught by family and friends and starts at an early age. We consider every situation where volunteers ask before answering definitively so don’t hesitate to ask to bring your child or youth along.
